Cereal Fiber and Whole Grains Fight Plaque in Heart Patients

Abstract

New research suggests that a diet high in cereal fiber and whole grains may help slow the progression of plaque buildup in the arteries of heart-disease patients. Although previous studies have associated a higher intake of fiber, especially cereal fiber, with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and death, most of this research has focused on subjects who don’t already have heart disease.
