A wire story in your local newspaper reports that a new study says flavonoids—antioxidants found in plants, tea, coffee and even chocolate—reduce postmenopausal women’s risk of breast cancer by 45%. This sounds like great news—an easy, even enjoyable way to ward off one of the diseases women fear most. But before you load up in the produce aisle, brew an extra pot of tea or coffee and give yourself an excuse to gobble a candy bar, read beyond the headlines.
